Description: This pair of dangling earrings is loosely based on a drawing my daughter Cedar made for me in the late 90s of a penguin family, and is really in her honor. The original drawing I have tucked away in a drawer someday, but maybe sometime I’ll dig it up and show it on my website. Penguins are, of course, flightless birds of the southern hemisphere. They may be comical looking, but they are first- rate swimmers and divers. They breed in all kinds of environments, from hot equatorial islands to frozen Antarctica. For the most part they are “made” for cool to cold conditions, and the only time they live in hot places is when there is a cold water current occurring. The tropical penguins don’t migrate. Penguins have a pretty similar body style, species to species. They may vary a lot in weight and size, though. Mostly their color is blue grey or black and white with an elegant bib covering the front of their body that is, of course, white. If a species of penguin does have especially distinguishing marks, they’re usually on the head so they can be seen while the birds are swimming along the surface. Most of the chicks are fluffy gray or brown.
