I realize only the young opossums are light enough to perform this amazing feat, but I figure it should be recorded for posterity in my gold jewelry version of the possum!

Some while ago, I found an older baby possum in my front yard. When I got close, she hissed at me, showing those needle sharp teeth and I was totally charmed!  

Virginia possums, of which this charm is representative of, are fairly common in North America. They have a lot of different nesting sites, and some of them are in the trees. They especially like hollow trees because they afford more protection from the elements as well as predators.

People in the southern United States have eaten possum for generations. I don’t know if that’s still true and I certainly have never indulged in possum meat, not do I ever intend to!
