Description: Bats are important to the ecology of the planet, and we’d be in big trouble if they all disappeared. (By the way I don’t hold it against anyone for not wearing a bat charm-just wanted to let you know.) There are 50 species of horseshoe bats (that’s the one I represented in my piece) in the world. That’s just one kind of bat! There are so many species of bats, and every one has an important role. All mammals have fur, and of course the bat is no exception. The bats that have their homes outside as opposed to in a cave have even longer fur for protection from the elements. Bats are very clean animals and groom themselves much like a cat using their tongue and sometimes their claws. Never know when that cute bat you have a crush on might be looking your way! (I, of course am talking from the viewpoint of a bat. I don’t expect that you, the reader, have a crush on a bat.) Most people think of bats as being black, but the truth is they come in many different colors. Some are even brightly colored red, orange or yellow! Now that would be something to see. I have made this little bat charm in sterling silver for quite a while-but oh, doesn’t he look handsome in gold! My 14k gold bat charm would be a wonderful gift for the charm collecting bat lover in your life. |
