Description: Bearded dragons have an interesting ability to regulate their body temperature to some degree. In fact, they can survive temperatures that are so high that other lizards could die of heat stroke. How do they do this? By evaporation. Also, their rate of losing water is on the low side. When bearded lizards are cornered or are competing with another male over territorial rights, they begin their impressive aggressive display. They can make their bodies look bigger by raising their ribs and erecting their beards. They also open their mouths to let their opponent cringe at the awesomeness of their golden yellow (sometimes yellow-green) mouth and tongue. As a grand finale, the bearded dragon then hisses like a snake! Despite all these histrionics, it rarely bites. Usually it just tries to fade into the surroundings by staying very still or even by changing its color. These reptiles feed mainly on insects, but also eat little lizards and snakes. The vegetable matter in their diet consist of the flowers that grow low to the ground.
