Description: There is something about a Westie that tickles me. They have a look of self importance that is just enough to be charming, especially for one of his stature! I think he shares that personality trait with his cousin the Scottie, although I think the westie is not quite so reserved. A couple other westie relatives are the cairn terrier, the Dandie Dinmont and some of the other rough haired Scotland terriers. The gold yorkie charm is another favorite - he's part of my 14K dog charms.
The westie is a tough little guy. By that I mean he’s hardy. And no wonder, as he was originally a hunter to keep fox, otter and vermin in control on the farms. I find it interesting that the white coat may have been specially bred into the dog breed so he could be easily seen so the hunters could separate the hunter from the hunted on a visual level. I’m not totally sure why that was necessary unless the westie would run the animal to ground and then the master would shoot it. In 1907 the westie was recognized by the British Kennel Club and it seems he has been a favorite ever since. If you have a very special charm bracelet, perhaps the gold westie charm could find a spot somewhere on it to be included! |
