Description: This dog has always been a bit of a royal character, and having his image in 14k gold seems like the right thing.
There are many interesting stories about this dog, one of the most over the top being the “love” that Russia’s Catherine the Great had for this breed. Actually, if this is to be believed, it’s possible that she was mentally unbalanced, as they say. It’s said that she had quite a few (like 20!) pugs and an equal number of parrots all kept in one room in her palace. Either the “room” was the size of a football field, or that was a very smelly and uncomfortable environment for all those animals. I think it’s easier to think of that as an exaggeration of the facts and let it go at that. But apparently she did demand that her pugs be allowed to accompany her to Church. So I would tend to go with the idea that she was quite possibly a bit “inbred” herself, and not perhaps as sane as one might hope for a woman of such status. In the 1700s in England pugs were quite popular not only with royalty but with women of the upper class, who were often seen with a servant wearing a turban and with a pug dog. I have no idea what the turbaned servant signified. This gold pug head charm might become a favorite that you, yourself can not go outside without, who knows? Need more? Click over to 14K gold dog charms home page and have a look; a charming gold schnauzer charm is one of the delights there. |
