Description:
The long haired dachshund looks in all ways, except for the long hair, like the smooth dachshund. It is a compact little dog with strong and sinewy musculature. The body is neither plump nor overly skinny, which tends to make the dog look more like a weasel. The feathered tail isn’t supposed to touch the ground even when the dog is resting. In fact, all the characteristics of the smooth dachshund apply to the long haired dachshund except for the obvious one of coat length.
And that is this- it’s supposed to be long and silky. Thick, but not hiding the outline of the dog’s trunk. There should be distinct feathering on the ears, side of the neck, front of the chest, etc. And the feathering is supposed to be silky and not fluffy. Also the coat is supposed to be glossy. This dog doesn’t even need a lot of grooming! The hair won’t get matted, and rain and mud fall off just like water on a duck’s back. The ears are really supposed to be lovely, lots of long feathering which is one of the things that make the dog so appealing.
This gold long haired dachshund charm is my reflection of those lovely characteristics!
