Description: We all have the good Parson Russell to thank for the development of this perky dog breed. He was a horseman and terrier judge in the 19th century who wanted a dog that could run with the hound dogs and get the fox to jump out of its hole. I wonder if he’d be surprised how popular this little dog is over a century later. Good job, Parson Russell! And what a wonderful way for your name to be carried forward in time. Many people call dogs that look similar to the Jack Russell by this name, but they are more likely what is referred to as hunt terriers. Of course this is all a bit confusing for someone like me who is out of the loop in such matters. All those customers of mine who tell me they have Jack Russell terriers, do they or don’t they? Are we all equally confused? And will there ever be an end to the confusion? Perhaps some worthy breeder will read this and decide to set me straight!
