Description: The place of origin of this breed is France, and it didn’t appear in Great Britain until its debut at the Wolverhampton dog show in 1875, where presumably it was a great hit. Just a few years later a Basset hound club was formed in England. Of course his addition to the Magic Zoo club of gold canine charms was more recent, but only because the club itself is newer! The body of the basset hound is quite broad. It’s been described as being long and barrel shaped. The luxurious ears are velvety and quite long. The base of the ears is below the eyes, which are brown and kind looking, at least to me. The basset’s nose is supposed to be dark in color. From looking at this dog, you might suppose it to be unwilling to do much except hang around the house and watch TV, like a lot of people do these days. However, it can be quite tenacious when on the trail of a rabbit or a pheasant and maintains a single minded determinism to track down its prey. So he can be a very good hunter, like my gold beagle charm in that regard! And for all these reasons, especially for the unstated one that this is just an all around good dog, this little gold basset charm would make a great reminder for someone of a marvelous dog. |
