Description: Cockatoos have that wonderful crest that they can erect completely at will. It seems like its their version of a facial expression. It doesn’t seem like it takes any effort on their part at all. Most cockatoos are white, such as the popular Umbrella or sulphur- crested cockatoo. Many of the white ones have some snazzy contrasting colors in their crests or under their wings. One of my favorites is the Major Mitchell’s cockatoo, with his handsome white, red and yellow striped crest. I also think the Moluccan cockatoo is especially fetching. Several years ago we were in a sanctuary for birds on the other side of Florida and a very personable Moluccan cockatoo was in the front room where guests could wander around. He had a very cute trick of placing a piece of food on his back then twisting around in a very attention getting way to pick it up again in his beak. I can’t remember exactly what he did, but it must have been cute because we watched him do it for a long time! I just read that the Moluccan is a gentle bird which can be very affectionate. They also have a pretty good reputation for being good talkers! If you like birds who speak, my gold African grey parrot charm deserves a look and while you're at it you can visit 14k gold bird charms to see them all.
