Description: Did you know that the actual flower of the poinsettia is the gold center? I know this analytically, yet whenever I see a poinsettia, I think of the red leaves as the flower petals, and the gold center as, well, just a gold center. Like the middle of a sunflower or daisy. But I don’t reckon that is so important. The poinsettia is a lovely plant, and the midwinter red of the plant’s leaves feel like Christmas to me. I don’t know the actual history of the inclusion of the poinsettia in the Christmas season. It would be interesting to look into sometime. Of course I had to create an enamel poinsettia pin. In fact, years ago I made clay poinsettia pins, which were a lot of work to create. But loving the holiday season the way I do, I didn’t really mind too much. But I must say that aesthetically speaking, I prefer my enamel poinsettia pin to the clay version. And not ONLY because I found that creating it once and then casting the design was easier. To me this enamel poinsetta pin has a more delicate look and feel, a look that reminds me more of the actual plant. But of course the poinsettia has been symbolic of the Christmas season for a very long time. I feel happy to have created my own version of this iconic plant- my enamel poinsettia pin. |
