Description:
I don’t know if turtles are as much a part of the reality of today’s children as they were when I was growing up in the 1950s, but it’s a shame if that’s the case. In those days we had the opportunity of visiting with an occasional box turtle that found itself on our front lawn on a dewy summer morning.
Our parents didn’t let us keep it as a pet, but we were allowed to put it in a large cardboard box for a while just to get a good look and feel. I’m grateful for those days when nature was a part of daily life.
I’m also grateful for zoos and aquariums, as at least in those place kids can be introduced to the animals that live around them. I certainly don’t see kids outdoors exploring their environment the way we did, and I can’t help but think there has to be something missing in their lives because of that.
But I was talking about turtles, and as you can see, one thing just led to another…
I think that often jewelry is a symbol of the things we love and hold dear and important.
Animals have always been important to me, and that’s why I make animal jewelry. I hope my enamel green turtle necklace will mean something to you, and that wearing it will give you pleasure and remind you of the beauty and fragility of these wonderful reptiles.
