Description:
I remember the cornflower blue butterflies of my childhood that fluttered around the nearby meadow in groups of two or three, spiraling up towards the summer sky. They were a slightly different hue, with just a touch of purple. That reminded me of the cornflowers I associate with them- those beautiful but tough stemmed flowers that were so hard to pick. I’ve always loved wildflowers, and as a child had some frustrating moments when I tried to add a dash of blue to my summer bouquet of Queen Anne’s Lace and black eyed Susan. The cornflowers just wanted to stay put in the field.
I would imagine there are all shades of blue butterflies, but none who have this particular sparkle. In that way these are pretty much a made-up design, only loosely based on anything that Mother Nature dreamed up. I suppose that's why I've also made the two-toned enamel green butterly necklace as well. I think that’s OK as long as I’m aware of it. And once in a while I can beg my own indulgence and create something made up.Of course I have quite a few other bug necklaces in enamel.
In other words, I can be a stickler for detail when it comes to creating the right color and anatomical detail of many animals. But you know, sometimes I just like to let my hair down, so to speak, and create something that isn’t really part of Earth’s ecology, except perhaps in a dream. This enamel blue butterfly necklace would certainly fit the bill!
