Description: I’m happy with all of my enamel jewelry designs, but this particular one is so delicate and so detailed that it threatens to be one of my favorites! I especially love those skinny little black flamingo legs. It seems that flamingos have reached a kind of cult status as a symbol of bad taste. Isn’t that strange? They are such lovely creatures. Of course I’m sure this originated with the abundance of tacky flamingo kitsch from the 1950s. I myself recently presented some good friends of ours (who specialize in kitsch décor) with a real find. It was a Florida flamingo TV lamp we discovered in an antique store. Needless to say, they were completely delighted with their housewarming gift. It was perfect. I really didn’t design my flamingo necklace as a joke. But I’m resigned to the fact that some people do buy it for that reason, or perhaps as joke flamingo gift. That’s OK with me. A little more humor in all of our lives can only be a good thing, after all.
