About Our Enamel Bird Pins

There’s a little known secret associated with my enamel bird pins - you can also wear them as pendants! Yes, there’s a hidden loop on the back of the piece where you can string a chain or a cord through. The two pins were individually painted, but are basically the same pewter design underneath. It really is amazing how color creates the image of the bird itself. The hand painting techniques are pretty mysterious to me, but I think  the artisans who do this part of the work are fantastic. A friend of mine and a fellow artist by the name of Carol Niclasse has spent time in the natural habitat of these amazing animals, and her paintings reflect her familiarity with them. I think it’s wonderful when an artist can actually go to the habitat of the animal and experience it first hand. That trip across the ocean to Australia gets more tempting with each passing year… Someday I will do a series of songbirds for my enamel painted jewelry line. I can imagine a glorious bluebird, cardinal, canary and others. It seems a waste of paint to not get these ideas created outside my imagination!
