It was a bit of a challenge to come up with a way to paint the greyhound without losing any of the detail. Originally I tried some opaque colors. They may have approximated the tone of the coat color, but all the fine detailing was lost in the process. With the black paint, all the detail was lost. Ditto for one I had painted in a fawn color. I settled for this epoxy paint color, because not only is it quite pretty, but it flavors the design in a uniquely rich way. Greyhounds are one breed of dog that really comes in an assortment of colors. I counted 18 color variations on my American Greyhound Track Operators Official Color Chart. Besides the color “blue” which is probably closest to grey in this breed, there are nine separate brindle varieties as well as a fawn greyhound, black and white greyhound, red and white greyhound, black greyhound, etc. I imagine I’ll figure out a way to get at least one more color variation in my enamel greyhound earrings.

I suppose this topaz colored greyhound would be closest to a “red” greyhound, although it isn’t really red, either. (on this color chart I think the red of my design looks quite a bit like the lighter red greyhound color.)

I have some greyhound earrings in other mediums, but I thought it would be fun to have one in color, hence my enamel topaz colored greyhound earrings!
