Description: These calico cat earrings are rather unique, mainly because they’ve been painted by hand, and no two of them will ever be exactly alike. I love things like this, and to me it makes them quite special.
The calico cat, which officially is called the Tortoise-shell-and- white, is a difficult cat to breed to the standards required for a show cat. Not only do the colors have to be really brilliant, but the cat can’t show any tabby markings whatsoever, or any kind of brindling, for that matter. There’s supposed to be a white blaze down the face, and the nose and paw leather should be either pink or black.
I just don’t think I’m the kind of person who could ever have any kind of “show” animal. I get much more excited about the personality of the pet than the perfection of his or her markings. ( I even offer green enamel cat earrings.) But that’s not to say that a show specimen is not something beautiful to behold. And I enjoy a good cat show as much as the next cat lover.
I’m probably just much too casual a person to ever consider breeding a cat or a dog for the show ring. (Do cats go in the show ring? I think not.)
Consequently, I have no idea if my little calico cat earrings would pass show standards, but I imagine they’d make good pets! You can see all my feline ideas at my enamel cat earring home page.
