The enamel earrings really make me happy as a designer. As much as I love precious metal as a medium for jewelry, the colorful earrings have a special place in my heart. The earliest jewelry I created, back in 1982, was colorful. Of course back then I was working exclusively in the polymer clay. Over the years I developed an instinct for color combinations, and was usually able to come up with designs that were pleasing and sometimes pretty spectacular! It seems I’ve come full circle now, what with the colorful painted earrings in my line. Apparently there’s no limit to the palette available in the epoxy paints. I’ve had a lot of fun working with my painters in the North east, working out designs and going back and forth on color. It sometimes takes a while to get things perfected, but the process has been interesting and fun. From whimsical purple cats, to monotone black labs- each design has its own look and feel. I’m still discovering all the wonderful ways I can create in this new medium. After I’ve just worked out a new enamel earring design, it’s quite exciting to get my first batch from the painters. You see, it does take a while to go from the conception of the design to the reality of it in my hands. It’s a little like waiting for Christmas! I have actually had some epoxy enamel earrings in my line for about a year, but they were sort of in the test mode for a while. Now that they’ve had some customer approval, I can put them up on my website at last! |
