My enamel jewelry designs are cast in fine pewter and then hand painted by a team of skilled New England artisans. The rich and beautiful colors are made to my exact specifications using a clear epoxy resin and special dyes. They are applied with paint brushes and, in some very detailed pieces, a needle and syringe! These women are meticulous workers and they constantly amaze me with their dedication and attention to detail. I feel very fortunate to have come upon such a hard working family owned business that cares so much about the quality of their products. And the fact that they are an American company not only makes it easy for me to have products and work go back and forth from their shop to The Magic Zoo, but I know that the ladies who work there are paid a fair wage and are well taken care of. The type of work they do is sometimes known as “cold enameling”. The technique was developed as an alternative way to create an effect very similar to enameling but without the intense heat required. My enamel jewelry is cured in a special “baking room” at 200 degrees for at least 8 hours before it is completed. On my website you’ll find enamel pins, earrings and necklaces.
