Maybe it’s just the red and green. Of course a Christmas tree is traditionally a symbol of the season.
I don’t think my Christmas tree earrings look like any others I’ve seen. When I created them, I wanted simplicity to be a defining part of the design. They’re really just little triangles with a star at one end and a trunk at the other. A few simple and colorful ornaments complete the design.
I do enjoy creating jewelry that will be cast in a precious metal, but I also love color and what the various combinations look like. I worked in colored clay for such a long time that I got pretty addicted to shades and tones in various colors.
Most people associate certain colors with the holiday season. I do too, as a matter of fact. You’d think it could be a bit limiting when trying to make Christmas jewelry. But there are so many shades of the traditional red and green that it becomes a challenge to see what I can do with them.
There are ways to change around traditional holiday forms and create designs new and exciting. But tradition is a lovely thing, and I wouldn’t want to stray too far from what is familiar.
These little enamel Christmas tree earrings have been created from a melding of my imagination and my love of the Christmas season.
