My chinchilla jewelry was designed specifically for mycustomers who kept asking me for it! I didn’t realize how popular this littlerodent was as a pet.
It’s about time that chinchillas are loved for something other than theiramazingly soft coats. I say let them keep their coats and we’ll make them forourselves out of something that doesn’t require a sacrifice! Having achinchilla as a pet seems like a good way to enjoy all that soft grey luxuriousnesswithout having to kill anybody for it.
The viscachas and the Chinchillas are related species. Bothhave been exploited by man, but the viscacha, which looks a little like GrouchoMarx, was not only hunted for its fur but its meat as well. Poor guy.
Chinchillas mate for life, which always charms me. Thefemale is a bit larger than the male and is the dominant of the pair. Theircourtship is rather unusual. Either the female or the male starts it off bypulling tufts of fur from the other one’s body! The litter consists of 5 or 6babies, who are born after a long gestation period. When they’re born, theyhave a full coat of fur, important in the harsh climate of the Andes. The parents form a live nest for keeping the babies warm, squatting side byside with the young ones in between.
My current chinchilla line of jewelry consists of a pair of earrings, a pendantand a charm. |
