| About Our Frog Jewelry |
| <animal-jewelry-reptile-jewelry-frog-jewelry>So many types of frog jewelry I could create, and only the 24 hour day to work with! But here you see a couple of my current designs. And in case you’re wondering why I put the frogs in the reptile section, it’s not because I’m ignorant- I grew up playing with amphibians as a child. Mostly salamanders, but the occasional frog as well. I put them in with the reptiles because many people who are interested in reptiles also find amphibians fascinating. I certainly do. By far the poison dart frogs of South America are the most gorgeously colored of all the frogs. One interesting fact I learned about these frogs somewhere is that when kept in captivity they gradually lose their ability to produce the toxins that keep them safe from predators (except for man, of course). Perhaps the poison relates to what they eat in their native environment. There’s a dainty little frog from the rain forests of Costa Rica called a glass frog, with skin so thin and delicate that the internal organs can be seen. There’s another frog called Darwin’s Frog that lays its eggs on land. When the tadpoles are ready to hatch, the movements attract any wandering nearby male who then takes a few eggs into his mouth, pushing them into the vocal sack with his tongue. The tadpoles stay there until they turn into little froglets, when they leave their adoptive dad’s mobile nursery. I could go on and on with these fun frog facts, let me tell you! My frog jewelry is available as a pin, pendant or a pair of earrings. Ribbet!</animal-jewelry-reptile-jewelry-frog-jewelry> |
