Chameleon jewelry is not for everyone. But I think it should be! They are such outrageously strange and marvelous creatures. The representative jewelry should certainly reflect some of that basic nature- I certainly hope it comes across in these designs. (I only regret that there was no way to include their freakishly long sticky tongue in the design.)
Chameleons are mostly forest dwellers, living in Africa south of the Sahara, Madagascar, and in the Middle East along the coast of North Africa all the way to southern Spain. There are a couple other species that live in the southern part of the Arabian peninsula, and another one in Ceylon and India.
To me, chameleons look like they belong to another time, if not another planet entirely. Those amazing swiveling eyes, moving in completely different directions. (How must that seem, having images that aren’t even integrated?) It boggles my mind. And the fact that they have the ability to change color to blend in with their environment is quite something. I wish I could do that. At the very least someone should invent a superhero with that power.
I would love to go to Madagascar and see some of these guys in person. Why Madagascar, when they live in other places as well? Because I could visit with lemurs at the same time, of course. And that’s the only place to find them, as far as I know.
