I guess I didn’t think there was enough dolphin jewelry in the world yet.
Pardon my facetiousness. I just wanted to have my own version of dolphin jewelry, something that had “Magic Zoo” written all over it and could be recognized as one of my designs. Plus I think dolphins are wonderful creatures and this is my way of honoring them (As if they would care!)
Now for a few dolphin facts. Did you know that there are 32 species of dolphins? And did you know (I didn’t) that the killer whale was one of the 32? That’s right, the killer, or Orca whale is in fact a dolphin. I may have known that at one time and forgotten it. That’s the wonderful thing about forgetfulness. You can rediscover all kinds of things and be amazed all over again.
In one of my animal encyclopedias there is a picture of an Indo-Pacific humpbacked dolphin squiggling his way across a mud bank, completely out of the water, on his way to another body of water. Who would have thought! All the dolphins I have seen in Florida stay nicely in the suds; occasionally I have mistaken their dorsal fin for that of a shark which gives the body an interesting wake up jolt. You can walk a long, long way out into the Gulf of Mexico here with the water just up to your chest, so you learn to be a little aware of who else is out there with you.
It just occurred to me how many unbelievable pieces of animal information there are in the world. Thank goodness for the Animal Planet network! (Not that I have cable- I resort to encyclopedias for my information.)
