<animal-jewelry-horse-jewelry>Can my horse jewelry section expand even further? Well, many impossible and formidable tasks are set before people every day and somehow those walls are scaled. So in answer to this self imposed question, I would have shout a resounding “YES!”
From the impossible-for-me to make horse design, to one with lots of variations already is miraculous. But miracles can be repeated with enough intention, so as soon as I wrap up some even more pressing design ideas, I will circle back and see what I can add to my equine jewelry section. I was reading about horses somewhere the other day and the article referred to horses as “prey animals”, and said that a lot of their behavior is based on that part of their nature. Never in a million years would I think of that proud stallion as a prey animal, although that may be technically true. It is true that their survival depends on their ability for rapid flight, and I guess if you were referring to the zebra it would be understandable. It was a reality adjustment for me. If I were more knowledgeable in this area it might be not such a mental stretch My way to learn about horses is by making horse jewelry and studying what I can in and around creating the design. I like to think that learning more about the animals I create will give them more reality to my customers.</animal-jewelry-horse-jewelry> <sterling-silver-jewelry-charms-horse-jewelry>I have several sterling silver horse charms and horse related charms in my jewelry line these days. I think horsewomen are a special breed, and I’d love to get some feedback on my designs. A totally equine charm bracelet is one idea but, of course, you can always mix in a few favorite dogs or other animal charms, even some silver marine animal charms. The whole collections is over at silver gift charms. My sister Holly was the horsewoman growing up in our family. In my imagination I pictured her as a rider, but the truth is that she loved horses but never had riding lessons as a child. In fact just a few years ago, with one child left in the nest she took up riding and even had her own horse. I was touched and proud of her persistence in following that dream. My only experience riding was on the dusty brown back of a sweet old horse owned by a friend of mine in Athens, Ohio. It was a thrilling, that little taste of being a rider, and raised my awareness of how fun it must be to ride for real. Not too long ago one of my veterinarian customers asked me to design a horse hoof print, telling me that many horse owners who have had a deep attachment to a horse would appreciate it. It was surprisingly one of the most difficult designs to create, but I think it makes a wonderful little sterling silver horse related charm.</sterling-silver-jewelry-charms-horse-jewelry> <sterling-silver-jewelry-earrings-horse-jewelry>I surprised myself recently when I saw how many pairs of sterling silver horse earrings I’d created over the past several years! It has become an exciting part of my silver earring home page. In 1990 or thereabouts I made my first horse jewelry item from polymer clay. It was a clunky little guy, really more of an imaginative cartoon. Back then I would have enjoyed working on animated claymation projects, and daresay I probably could’ve held my own, but that time has passed. Horses are animals that really have to be closely observed to create a likeness that’s passable. I keep learning and improving. Now I have some sterling silver horse earrings I’m genuinely proud of. Horse jewelry is an area where it is possible to do some work that portrays a wide range of feelings and poses. I miss having horses as neighbors. When we lived for a while out in the country in Northern California my daily morning walk always included a little nose scratch for the pretty bay mare down the road. I love the way horses smell and sound- they were such elegant animals and friendly neighbors. My daughter who was a young woman that animals just seemed to gravitate towards was also enamored of our equine neighbors. I think the admiration was mutual because the neighborliness of the horses increased when she was with me. I imagine my line of sterling silver horse designs will continue to grow, so keep a look out from time to time for new ones. There are some interesting designs of farm animal earrings in sterling silver, also.</sterling-silver-jewelry-earrings-horse-jewelry> <sterling-silver-jewelry-pendants-horse-jewelry>This herd of sterling silver horse pendants seems to keep expanding. Sometimes when I do a new design I really don’t know when to quit and end up making three different sizes of pendants for a single design. When I originally started to design for the silver medium, I was in “overkill” mode. Everything I made had 2 or three versions. Later on I learned the hard way that until I knew something would actually sell, just make one version. Smart! Well, maybe not so smart that it took me so long to get to that conclusion. On the plus side, you have silver pendants with marine animal designs as well as everything at silver pendant home. I learned a lot of things the hard way as an artist and an entrepreneur. But that’s OK! The best thing I ever did was taking the bull by the horn and creating my own business from the ground up. I really have my mom to think for my persistence in this area. I grew up with a wonderful example of her making a living as an artist and have never wavered from the certainty that it can be done. I don’t mind lots of work and that’s the number one requisite for making anything worthwhile proceed apace. The result is lots of animal jewelry and now other zones of sterling silver jewelry as well. If you still don’t see the sterling silver horse pendant you are looking for, don’t be a stranger to the Magic Zoo and visit me again. I just keep on designing.</sterling-silver-jewelry-pendants-horse-jewelry> <sterling-silver-jewelry-pin-pendants-horse-jewelry>I now have three sterling silver horse pin pendants. The first two designs (the western and the English horses) were worked on a couple years ago in Rhode Island when I visited my sister just after she’d had foot surgery. She is the horsewoman in the family and since we had time on our hands we thought we’d put our heads and talents together and see what we could come up with in the equine design department. The last one I worked on was the Quarter horse pin pendant design, which I will admit took a lot more time and effort and just plain looking. I really like them all for different reasons, but probably have the most fondness for the English horse head. Somehow it reminds me of a large black ceramic horse head that my father created and which was a part of the Hutton household for many years until my father passed away in 1969 and my mom relocated. My dad was an excellent artist in his own right. Unfortunately, I never knew him as well as I would have liked, and he died when I was only a teenager. But he wrote fiction well and also did nice work in clay and as a painter. His name was Willard Alan Hutton, and much of his life is mystery to his four children. I digress. At any rate, I have worked up a start at pin pendants of silver marine animals and quite a few more at silver pin pendant home.</sterling-silver-jewelry-pin-pendants-horse-jewelry> <sterling-silver-jewelry-post-earrings-horse-jewelry>At this exact moment in time, I have but two sterling silver horse post earrings. Perhaps later there will be more. More likely than not this will be true eventually. Making these original horse head post earrings was one of those biggish challenges. Perhaps my hands are more agile now and I should create some new ones more easily. It’s quite interesting how after two or three or five years one’s artistic “chops” improve and a new version of something created in the past can be truly a delight! But my dilemma remains the old one of so many animals and so little time to create them all. Another one of my favorites can be found on my sterling wildlife post earrings page. I’m amused by a comment I hear at some of the trade shows where I exhibit my work. It goes something like this “Why you’ve got every animal there is!” My snappy internal retort is that it would be a poor planet ecologically speaking if my little representation of animals were all that there was! Why there’s not a songbird, a fish nor a spider among my designs! (Nor is there one of probably thousands of different species on the planet.) I realize the comment is made as a complement, but to this old animal lover, it just doesn’t fit. So the fact that I have two sterling silver horse post earrings is abundance, compared to NO songbirds, NO warthogs, etc.! You can see what other animals I have recreated on my sterling silver post earrings page. </sterling-silver-jewelry-post-earrings-horse-jewelry> <gold-jewelry-charms-horse-jewelry>If I were a horsewoman, I’d enjoy having a series of different gold horse charms on my bracelet. And not all of them are of the horse head, either! I think the gold horse shoe on a heart is a nice piece with a wonderful sentiment for any horse lover. I will be the first to admit that my Magic Zoo horse and horse related designs are not your everyday charms. I’ve always been a bit “different” so love to create 14k gold charms gifts that are unexpected in some way. All of my jewelry has my signature, in more ways than one. (Yes, if you look closely at the back you’ll see a little “mz” somewhere.) I have even started a section for marine animal charms in 14K. I hope you find something among this collection that appeals to you. I may not be a rider, but I love horses and think they are one of the most aesthetic animals on the planet. I also admire them for their centuries of contribution towards the civilization of the planet. They have really served us humans quite well! It must be such a gift to be a large horse veterinarian and be able to give back to these wonderful beasts. So here you have my current selection of gold horse charms and it’d be a nice thing if one of them lifts your spirits or makes you happier than you already are!</gold-jewelry-charms-horse-jewelry> <gold-jewelry-earrings-horse-jewelry>I’ve had such a wonderful experience in designing these gold horse earrings. They have progressed in time through the gold English and Western horse earrings through (perhaps my current favorite) the gold facing horse. There’s something about that one that just tickles my funny bone. It has really grown on me! I realize there are lots of lovely horse earrings available in the world, which is a good thing because horses are so beautiful and they deserve the honor of being so widely represented. I, of course have my own version with my own artistic slant. I hope you enjoy mine, but if they just aren’t to your taste, I’m not offended. (How would I know, anyway?) All I can say is it gave me great joy to design them and I hope that comes across in the photographs! Since horses have been domesticated for thousands of years, they have certainly enjoyed a lot of representation in art for an equal period of time. I love the work of early artists, even those of prehistoric artisans. To me, they were able to capture the very essence of the animals they painted, and in just a few simple strokes of the “brush”, whatever that may have been at that time. My own gold earrings page is my offering to you and includes many other animals such as gold marine life earrings. I hope I have done justice to the horses who have been our friends and allies for so long.</gold-jewelry-earrings-horse-jewelry> <gold-jewelry-pendants-horse-jewelry>The number of Magic Zoo gold horse pendants have been increasing over the past couple of years, and I have some real favorites now. I would say the one with the horse facing towards you is probably the one I most enjoyed designing. The little hoof print inside the heart is another one I really had fun with. I do think horses are fantastic creatures, and it was an exercise in artistic admiration to create such a selection of horse pendants. The sizes vary as well, so there would be a good one to suit either a young girl or a woman. So many youngsters enjoy riding now, that I decided it would be fun to have a selection of gold horse jewelry for their parents or grandparents to choose from. Sometimes you just want to present a really special gift. Now that I’m a grandmother myself, I know how much it means to be able to give something to a beloved grand daughter that has a lot of meaning to both of you. So whether she rides horses or is a burgeoning marine scientist who might love one of my classy gold marine life pendants, you are sure to find a very special gift among my 14k animal pendant gifts. The chains available are the 14k gold rope type, and I offer them in two lengths; for a young girl or a petite woman I would suggest the 16” chain to go along with a gold horse pendant. Longer chains are a possibility as well, but I ask you to email me if you need one longer than the 18” one that I offer.</gold-jewelry-pendants-horse-jewelry> <gold-jewelry-pin-pendants-horse-jewelry>To wear one of my gold horse pin pendants you would, I imagine, not only need to be a horse lover but someone who thinks for herself and doesn’t mind being an individual. Yes, that would include even down to her choices in jewelry. These three pieces are something you wont find on every street corner, er, stable. The three current designs I have of the gold horses in a pin pendant are all pretty different, and were designed, each of them, at a different period in Magic Zoo’s evolution. Looking for one with a bit of whimsy? How about the western horse pin pendant. How about something with a strong design element? I think that would be the English horse version. Or one that has some mass and is a bit more realistic- I’d be speaking of the Quarter horse pin pendant. I think all of the pin pendant gifts in gold cast very nicely, and it’s really just a matter of personal preference. I should mention here that I do, indeed, have some smaller horse pendants in gold if the main thing you’re after is a pendant, and the versatility of wearing it as a pin is not all that important to you. Whether you decide to go for one of the larger horse pin pendant in gold or the little gold pendants, of which I have a pretty fair selection, it is totally up to what your needs and budget might be. I just began a marine life gold pin pendant section, too.</gold-jewelry-pin-pendants-horse-jewelry>
<gold-jewelry-post-earrings-horse-jewelry>My little selection of gold horse post earrings is the start of something wonderful! I’m happy to offer the current designs and promise to create new ones in the future, as time permits. Ditto for my beginning gold wild animal post earring section. But collectively there are a fair number of selections at my post earrings in gold home page. Many women prefer small earrings. I also think that a young horsewoman who recently had her ears pierced would love to own a pair of gold horse stud earrings. For a young girl, the little horseshoe earrings in 14k gold might be a great choice. The other good thing about the post style earrings for someone not yet a teenager is that stud earrings practically eliminate the worrisome possibility of a dangling earring getting caught in something while exercising or playing.(especially for an active child.) I think it’s wonderful that young girls enjoy riding. What a wonderful opportunity to discover the joys of the outdoors coupled with the responsibility of taking care of a large animal. A horse is gentle as well as large. This combination of qualities is a good concept for a child to take in and understand. That size and power do not necessarily equal cruelty or greed. There is a beautiful give and take between a young child and any animal they are looking after. I do hope you enjoy my gold horse post earrings and have someone special in your life to present a pair of them to.</gold-jewelry-post-earrings-horse-jewelry> <enamel-jewelry-earrings-horse-jewelry>My enamel horse earring offering was born from the idea that I really should have at least one pair of horse earrings in color. I chose the bay horse as kind of a traditional looking equine representative. For over twenty years I made, completely by hand, a clay horse of a very whimsical nature that most people seemed to enjoy. And that horse was the progeny of my original horse design which came from a fertile imagination, as it really didn’t resemble an actual equine at all. I do believe my ability to actually LOOK at the animals that I make has improved over these many years. I was talking to my husband this morning about my own toughness when examining my art. I was, I guess, complaining about artists who are a little too sure of their anatomy, even when it is embarrassingly “off”. My attitude as a jewelry artist is that I should never be too complacent regarding my designs. I work hard, sometimes miss, but am pretty sure the next version of a design will be better. My mom was an incredibly good artist and she was definitely an inspiration as far as working hard to improve my craft. I just might have some other horse colors coming the way of the Magic Zoo, who knows?</enamel-jewelry-earrings-horse-jewelry> <enamel-jewelry-necklaces-horse-jewelry>I thought an enamel horse necklace would be just the thing for the young horsewoman to wear to school or for fun. I designed it with that child in mind, probably partially as a replacement for the polymer clay design I no longer feature on my web site. Creating something once and having it look just the way I intended, then going on to another creation is a dream come true for me. Prior to my using metal as part of the Magic Zoo design element, all was painstakingly created by hand. By me. No help there. And other terse phrases. Now I can be an artist. And if not exactly free as a bird, then at least certain to be having a lot more fun. A creation now is a creation, followed by more creations and so on. If I make another horse design, good chance it will look nothing like this current one, which I think is fun for my customers as well. Lots of surprises in store yet for you and for me! But until that time, I do hope this sweet little enamel horse pendant on the black cord suits you well. Perhaps I should mention at this moment that there is a pewter only version of this fellow, mane and head both the pewter color. It is a nice looking piece.</enamel-jewelry-necklaces-horse-jewelry> <pewter-jewelry-earrings-horse-jewelry>The pewter horse earrings seemed like a great idea to me. Natural silvery coloring, light weight, easy on the pocketbook! I think that’s a good combination. Oh, how about attractive design as well? For the oh-so-many horse lovers on the planet Earth, I try to keep the equine line of the Magic Zoo pewter earrings fresh and interesting (see the newest marine animal pewter earrings.)These were created with no less care and interest on my part than were the most expensive item in my web store. A poorly made item would be a personal affront, so I try to avoid making things poorly at all cost! I do spend as much time on every design as I feel is necessary in order to produce a result not just pleasing to my customers but first and foremost to myself. I have to start somewhere. It’s been a long time since I picked up my first blob of clay and prepared my first creation. I’ve certainly learned a lot since then. But I am the first to admit my techniques are still improving. I expect that in 2020 I’ll look at my designs from the first part of this century and see improvements from now to then. Yes, I’m quite sure I’ll still be “at it” when I’m in my seventies and beyond. Pewter horse earrings anyone? Yes, that is what we were talking about. Hope you like them!</pewter-jewelry-earrings-horse-jewelry> <pewter-jewelry-lapel-pins-tie-tacks-horse-jewelry>What do you think, should I add another pewter horse lapel pin tie tack design to this section? I just ask that rhetorically because it is one of the designs I long ago decided could use yet another choice, and will get to if I ever get a break from writing copy for my web store! This design is sort of an Arabian quarter horse mix, I suppose. I have made so many horses and my technique in the equine jewelry department continues to improve. This originally was made to be a piece affixed to a name badge, but carried over to the lapel pin tie tack area of The Magic Zoo. I believe the same thing occurred with my pewter lizard lapel pins. Here and there in my web site I’ve written things about horses and horse jewelry. That’s rather an expansive subject as it, because I realize there are a lot of horsewomen and men in the environment. I am assuming most of the wearers of horse jewelry to be women. However, this piece was designed to be a tie tack as well as a lapel pin. Keep in mind the future will probably include some sterling silver and gold horse tie tacks so the gentleman rider is not left out. So many plans, so little time as they say. But at least I do have the one offering now in the pewter horse lapel pin and tie tack.</pewter-jewelry-lapel-pins-tie-tacks-horse-jewelry> <pewter-jewelry-necklaces-horse-jewelry>Here you have a great little piece of horse jewelry at a cost most could afford; the pewter horse necklace design. There seems to be a tradition of horse jewelry for young ladies who, no matter whether their parents live on a farm or can or cannot afford riding lessons, still seem to be enamored of horses. My own sister falls into this category. We grew up in Greenhills, a suburb of Cincinnati in Ohio. Our family struggled financially, but my sister never lost hope that some day she would be a rider. Well, even though she had to grow up and raise three kids before it could happen, she eventually did own a horse and became a good rider. I love that. If your child loves horses, it seems the best thing to do is to encourage her or him. I’ve always thought the very best way to raise a child is to support whatever it is your little one seems to be interested in. (This does not include video games, unless he or she wants to actually design them!) If you can’t afford riding lessons, perhaps an older child could have a little job to help them earn money for that. I have created a pewter horse necklace that is priced nicely for most people, and I hope you have someone in your family destined to be a rider who wouldn’t mind wearing this around her neck! I have many more designs to look over in the pewter necklaces section including some interesting marine animal necklaces in pewter.</pewter-jewelry-necklaces-horse-jewelry> |
