My Labrador retriever jewelry has a pretty big presence in The Magic Zoo with six different versions of this dog! Well they are popular dogs and quite beautiful as well so it’s easy to get carried away as the designer.
It seems the story of the Labrador began when it was first brought to Great Britain on a ship that was delivering salted cod from Newfoundland. Apparently it was a working dog that collected the fish that fell out of the nets. It also retrieved water birds.
The Lab is still popular as a retriever, but is sometimes used as a bomb sniffing dog and finds a home in the military for this purpose. Since they are loyal and hard working dogs, I imagine their popularity as a working dog will continue. The fact that they’re enthusiastic, even when training for many long hours makes them even more appealing. And, as many families know already, labs make wonderful companion dogs. If I were able to have labs (if I lived in the country, sigh) I would have one of each color. All the variations are so beautiful it would be hard to stop with just one!
