I’ve been making golden retriever jewelry for many, many years. They were fun to make in the colored clay, and I still make the golden retriever name badges in clay. But I’ve since graduated to precious metal golden retriever for the majority of my golden designs.
Here’s an intriguing bit of breed history I found through one of my sources: It’s thought the golden retriever was developed by crossing the bloodhound with some golden coated dogs that were from a Russian circus in the 1800s! The real mystery is what exactly did those golden dogs do in the circus, and what exactly did they look like?
Well that appears to have been a “happy accident” (if indeed it was an accident) because the resultant dog is sure a beauty in so many ways! Not only are they beautiful, but they are smart and are great retrievers for hunters. They are also wonderful companions and helpers for disabled people. One of my customers is blind and she has had quite a few golden retrievers as guide dogs. I have a lot of affection for this breed, even though I’ve never had one in my own family.
Golden retriever puppies arrive in a light gold shade which gradually darkens as they grow older. I’ve seen golden retrievers in several shades of gold, both quite lovely
