About Our Dachshund Jewelry
I have quite a few dachshund jewelry designs as you may have noticed! I do like this breed, but more importantly, it has been one of the most requested breeds in my long career as an animal jewelry artist. That’s the real reason for the wealth of dachshund designs.

I was surprised to find dachshunds in one of my dog books listed under hunting dogs! I know that is their history, but thought they were considered companion dogs only these days. I have read that in certain European countries including Great Britain they are still used as den-hunting dogs. Apparently they are rather fearless and will gladly go down into a burrow after martens and weasels. They don’t hesitate to attack animals that are larger than they are. Even miniature dachshunds weren’t bred for their cuteness but to hunt hares.

A dachshund ancestor’s images were found in an Egyptian pharoah’s tomb. It was called a “teckel” and is still called by that name in Germany. Hmm, I thought dachshund was a German name?!

Dachshunds are described as having a humorous and playful nature, as well as being intelligent little dogs.

There are several varieties of dachshunds, and I have the long haired dachshund jewelry and the short haired dachshund jewelry represented now in The Magic Zoo. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if the wire haired dachshund jewelry makes an appearance sometime in the future.
