| About Our Cocker Spaniel Jewelry |
| My cocker spaniel jewelry was especially fun to create, and I hope you enjoy my efforts! My first contact with cocker spaniels was as a child in the1950s. My parents took care of two black cocker spaniels for a married couple that recently moved to mysterious Alaska! This was before it became a state and I have no idea why these people moved there or why we were chosen to baby sit their dogs. But they were sweet black dogs with kind eyes that put up graciously with awkward affection from the four Hutton children. I’d say they most certainly had the gentle demeanor typical of this breed. Did the dogs eventually meet up with their wandering owners? It’s strange, but I have no idea and my older sister Holly doesn’t remember much more about our short term guests. (Unfortunately my mom’s no longer around to ask.) Cocker spaniels were first described in 1300. However since there’s no picture or drawing that we know about, it’s hard to say how closely this ancient dog matched the current version. Although cockers were bred as hunting dogs, today they are almost completely considered to be companion dogs. “Cocker” comes from the woodcock that they were used to hunt. There are two variations of this breed; the English and the American cocker spaniel. The Cocker spaniel jewelry in my site more closely approximates the English Cocker spaniel. |
