About Our Basset Jewelry

Basset hound jewelry should evoke some of the just plain sweetness inherent in this breed. What’s not to love about a basset hound face? It’s very hard to get the concept of a mean basset hound. Perhaps there never has been one! One of my sources says that basset hound type dogs are depicted on tombs from ancient Egypt! Can this be true? It doesn’t totally make sense because the same source says that the Basset hound wasn’t developed until the late 1800s in England. It may have been a cross between the French Basset Art’esian Normand and the Bloodhound. The resultant slow, sure dog was used to track rabbits. Bassets are now kept as companion and show dogs. The ones I’ve met have all been sweet dogs. I’ll bet they’re good with kids. Supposedly they don’t do so well in a hot climate, but there’s one in my Florida neighborhood who seems pretty happy! I’m sure he spends most of his time in air-conditioned comfort like the rest of us here. I really like my Basset hound pin pendant. I designed him a few years ago and I was really happy with his expression and pose. The ears are one of his most distinguishing features, and part of what makes him so lovable-both the real thing and the jewelry version of him.
