Bug Jewelry – Colorful, Fun and Surprising
I’ve designed several insects in silver, gold, pewter and enamel. To me, both the color and the shapes found in the insect world make them especially appealing to me as an artist. Oh, and the fact that I have always been fascinated with bugs. Maybe because I was at one time so much lower to the ground, I developed more than a nodding acquaintance with these critters. Here are some nature jewelry choices. |
Bugs jewelry makes sense to me. If you think of bugs as a whole, they really fit the model for a great piece of jewelry! They’re small, they’re colorful and they’re light weight. But maybe that’s just me.
I was the tomboy who “studied” all manner of insects as a little girl. And not just insects, but I was so fond of earth worms that I carried them around in the leather satchel attached to the back of my bike. Why? I have no idea what I was thinking. Maybe I just wanted to give them a ride.
The other invertebrate that I found fascinating was the daddy long leg spider, a friendly guy with a lovable name that I’d keep in a large jar and feed on liverwurst. To this day I still think that’s the best possible use for liverwurst.
The bug jewelry I have in my line so far is what you might expect. Butterfly, ladybug and soon a dragonfly line of jewelry. However, if there is enough demand for, say, a rhinoceros beetle or a spider (yes, I realize that spiders are arachnids, not insects) whose to say they might not someday appear on the Magic Zoo horizon as well? Your wish is my command (within reason, of course.)
